Government Petition

In response to a Government petition to overturn the ban on 3D/4D number plates, the Department of Transport clarified the position: they meet the demands of the current standard, BSAU 145d, they are legal and will not need to be changed after decided month, when the new standard takes effect. Furthermore, 3D gel and 4D laser cut number plates will be permitted under BSAU 145e if they fulfil the standard's criteria and pass the requisite testing.

It appears that there was never a serious threat of 3D gel and 4D laser cut number plates becoming unlawful, despite the fact that the Government appeal was successful in bringing clarification to the situation.
